Statistics show that the global smart hospital market is expected to reach a value of US$84 billion by 2026. With ambulatory vigilance playing a key role in this growth.
Semtech, an electronics company considered a leading supplier of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors and advanced algorithms. Launched a collaboration with Ontex, a leading international personal hygiene group, for an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled diaper tag.
In fact, as hospitals and elder care facilities face both time and budget pressure to take care of residents, it is really crucial for them to immediately identify any incidents that require follow-up actions.
In this context, Ontex has developed and launched the smart diaper concept. The company worked with Belgium’s medical device agency. Zenso Electronics, to integrate (standards-compliant) devices that provide real-time alerts to caregivers via an app when the pad needs changing. The solution consists on: a printed sensor, transmitter (clipped onto the diaper) and a mobile or web application, which can accurately determine the saturation level of the diaper.
This joint solution highlights how the IoT is valuable for improving the future of smart hospitals. It is a strong example of how technology is making the world a better and smarter place to live through the improved patient experience.
